I'm not a sporty type but I had a wonderful day messing about on the water back in August.
We hired some canoes at Vitrac (about 20 minutes away from the gîte) and canoed to Beynac where we had the obligatory long lazy French lunch.
Even if you've never done it before, it was easy to make progress as the river is really wide and slow, making it is super relaxing to dip a paddle in every now and then. As you can see, it's dog friendly too - Piccolo really enjoyed herself, as did her friend Tikka!
The scenery is beautiful, with lush vegetation and dramatic gorge cliffs, and a glimpse of a chateau every now and then en route.
After our lunch we were collected by the canoe company who took us back up river to our car, it was all really well organised and I'd definitely recommend this as a must do activity :) I really don't think that you could fall into the water, but the company provides life jackets and a waterproof container to store your things in just in case...
We will definitely be doing this again next year :)
